US President-elect Joe Biden today chose former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen to take over the Treasury.

According to Agence France-Presse, Biden's transition team said in a statement today, "Janet Yellen has been chosen to take over the Treasury Department."

If the appointment is confirmed, she will be the first woman to hold the Treasury in her 231-year history.

Yellen, 74, had broken barriers by appointing her the first woman at the head of the Federal Reserve, and she would be entrusted with the task of reviving the American economy exhausted from the repercussions of the Corona virus, if the Senate approved her name.

Biden announced last week the selection of other personalities in the economic team to run him when he takes office at the end of next January.
