BRUSSELS -

The European Commission has formally signed a new contract with the company CureVac, already approved by Brussels in recent days, for the supply of an anti-Covid vaccine.

President Ursula von der Leyen announced this

in a tweet.

It is the fifth contract signed by the EU with as many pharmaceutical companies.

The total number of doses of vaccines that the EU has ensured to supply has thus risen to about two billion.

"Europeans will be able to use them once their safety and efficacy have been proven, hopefully before the end of the year."
