Europe today has become the first region in the world to record more than half a million deaths from Covid-19, according to an AFP tally based on reports provided by health authorities. (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - PARIS, DECEMBER 17 - Europe today has become the first region in the world to record more than half a million deaths from Covid-19, according to an AFP count based on reports provided by health authorities.

In the 52 countries and territories of the European region there are at least 500,069 deaths (with over 23 million infections).

There are 477,404 victims in Latin America and the Caribbean, 321,287 in the United States and Canada, 208,149 in Asia, 85,895 in the Middle East and 57,423 in Africa.
