A doctor has been in custody since Wednesday on suspicion of rape in a hospital in Gütersloh, North Rhine-Westphalia.
The doctor is said to have passed on a 36-year-old patient, as the police and prosecutor jointly announced.
The Bielefeld District Court sent the 42-year-old to custody on urgent suspicions.
The police learned of the alleged sexual offense late Tuesday evening and arrested the man on Wednesday night.
"The intensive investigations into this criminal case are still ongoing," said the authorities.
The investigators initially did not provide any further details.
