The Race to Zero promotion campaign starts today in Italy, the race for zero emissions promoted by the British Embassy in collaboration with Italy for Climate, the Italian climate initiative of the Foundation for sustainable development, supported by a group of virtuous companies .

The initiative involves all non-governmental actors, i.e. companies, cities, regions and universities, which are putting in place commitments aimed at carbon neutrality and who want to be leaders of a greater climate ambition in view of COP26, which is held in Glasgow in 2021. In addition to the carbon neutrality commitment to be achieved by 2050 at the latest, the actors of the Race to Zero campaign must define an emission reduction target by 2030, identify an action plan to be implemented until immediately and be available to make their progress public.

"Although our concerns are rightly addressed to the health emergency of Coronavirus - said British Ambassador Jill Morris - we must not forget that we are also facing another threat, that of climate change".

"The challenge of climate neutrality, of net zero emissions - commented EdoRonchi, President of the Foundation for Sustainable Development - can be won".

And he adds: "It is essential to strengthen the involvement and direct initiative of citizens, businesses and cities".

Net zero emissions by 2050 is the now essential climate target.

More and more countries have taken up this challenge in recent months by announcing carbon neutrality commitments, as also emerged during the Climate Ambition Summit on the occasion of the anniversary of the Paris Agreement, last 12 December.

The spotlight is also on the United States which, with the new Biden presidency, could become protagonists on the climate again.
