In the Chinese city of Kaiyuan, a man apparently stabbed passers-by at random. Seven people died and seven others were injured.

According to state media, seven people were killed in a knife attack in northeast China.

As the state news agency Xinhua reported, citing the police, the perpetrator apparently stabbed passers-by in the city of Kaiyuan in Liaoning province on Sunday morning.

Seven other people were injured.

The police were later able to arrest the attacker in a bathhouse.

The investigation into the background of the crime is ongoing.

Arbitrary knife attacks are relatively common in China, where firearms are banned from civilians.

Often they are committed by angry citizens who see themselves as victims of injustice and want to take revenge on society.
