The United Nations announced today that the Libyan political dialogue arranged by the international organization has made progress towards approving a new transitional government to supervise the period leading up to the elections scheduled for next December.

Reuters quoted Stephanie Williams, the acting UN envoy to Libya, as saying that the agreement represents the best possible compromise for this issue and could lead to the selection of a transitional government within several weeks, warning of attempts by some to obstruct efforts to make peace.

Williams assured that the transitional government will be responsible for preparing for elections, fighting corruption, and restoring public services throughout Libya.
