Contrary to appearances, it is not a question of sports training in the middle of the street, but of interpellations.

Surprised without a mask by the Balinese authorities, dozens of foreigners were reprimanded.

For lack of money to pay the fine - 100,000 rupees, or 6 euros - they were forced to do push-ups.

Those without a mask had to do 50 push-ups, and those who wore it inappropriately, 15 push-ups.

Wearing a mask is mandatory in public places on the Indonesian island to limit the spread of the coronavirus since last year.

Authorities in Bali have warned that they could go so far as to deport foreigners who do not wear them and do not comply with anti-Covid regulations.

While the punishment may come as a surprise, Balinese law enforcement officers are not the first to be creative in getting sanitary rules enforced.

Last April, a small group of tourists who broke confinement in the city of Rishikesh, India, were punished by local police.

The violators had to write 500 times: "I did not follow the confinement rules, I am really sorry".
