(ANSA) - PARIS, JAN 22 - The crew of the Fracese carrier Charles-de-Gaulle, heavily contaminated last year by the coronavirus, will be fully vaccinated before leaving on a mission to the Indian Ocean in February: this is what was announced today by the Minister of the Army, Florence Parly.

Last year, about two-thirds of the crew of Charles-de-Gaulle, the ship that symbolizes French nuclear deterrence, were contaminated on board.

To avoid repeating such a scenario, the members of the navy who will embark in mid-February for the operational mission in the Indian Ocean will be vaccinated.

"Everyone can obviously understand the reasons", declared the minister interviewed by Var Matin.

"In order for military personnel and fighter pilots to accomplish this long and important mission, during which sanitary evacuation capabilities will be limited, they need to be vaccinated," he added.

Parly then specified that the divaccination campaign began yesterday in agreement with the Ministry of Health.

Since last year, the Charles-de-Gaulle aircraft carrier has been entirely cleaned and reclaimed.
