The drama of the withdrawal of aid to almost 30,000 families, many of immigrant origin, has shattered the image of the Nordic country as a benchmark for well-being and equality. The far-right anti-immigration proclamations have contaminated the system

The scandal caused by the irregular withdrawal of aid for childcare, which affects at least 26,000 families, has placed the Netherlands in the distorted mirror of what it considers its most deeply rooted virtues: austerity, the integrity of public institutions, saving as a badge - this is in turn exhibited before the EU partners - and tolerance.
