More than a hundred people were injured in clashes between protesters and the Lebanese security forces today in the city of Tripoli in northern Lebanon, while the Lebanese army announced the restoration of calm in the city.

The Lebanese Red Cross said in a statement tonight that its members transported five wounded people to Tripoli hospitals and treated 97 field casualties as a result of the clashes.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that a number of protesters cut off the western route of the Zouq highway from Beirut to Tripoli this evening, while the Lebanese army worked to reopen it to traffic.

The agency indicated that a fire broke out in the municipality of Tripoli after the protesters threw Molotov cocktails at it, before the army intervened and restored calm to the city.

The Lebanese army members deported the protesters from the Tripoli Serail building to Abdul Hamid Karami Square and then to the streets branching from it.

And it was announced earlier today that a member of the Lebanese security forces had been injured by a grenade explosion inside the Serail Square in Tripoli, as demonstrations and protests continued in the city for the fourth consecutive day.
