"We are yet to confirm whether it is a new strain of the coronavirus in Mexico," Dr. Andreu Comas, one of the scientists studying the covid-19 mutation in the country, told CNN.
The researcher said that the effort to gather enough evidence could help to know if the mutation would make the virus more contagious or dangerous.
He added that the investigation will also help determine if the vaccines in Mexico's portfolio could combat a possible new strain.
