Kronach - A 31-year-old woman and a two-year-old child were killed in a fire in an asylum seeker accommodation in Kronach on Sunday evening.

A 34-year-old man suffered severe burns and was flown to a hospital, as the Upper Franconian police headquarters announced.

The cause of the fire in one apartment of the house is currently unclear.

Fire investigators from the Coburg criminal police took over the investigation.

According to previous knowledge, it had started to burn around 5:50 p.m. in the apartment.

Several residents were still in the apartment building at this time.

Because of the fire damage, no one was able to return to their accommodation in the evening after the fire was extinguished.

Representatives of the district office arranged accommodation for the residents.
