The Franco-German TV broadcaster Arte suffered a program failure due to a strike.

The news program on Wednesday afternoon could not be broadcast, as the station announced in Strasbourg.

A report was shown as a replacement.

The background to the stoppage of work by employees at the main location in Strasbourg in France is a regulation to cap the volume of working hours for freelancers.

There is a call for this ceiling to be abolished.

In a statement in response to the strike, and specifically this demand, Arte Managing Director and Administrative Director Emmanuel Suard said: “We believe that such an approach would jeopardize the overall balance of the permanent employment plan.

In the current context of a tense financial situation - due to the debate about radio broadcasts in Germany and France - Arte has to ensure adequate funding.

At the same time, Suard emphasized that the station continues to rely on a social dialogue in order to find joint solutions for each individual case.
