Frankfurt / Main - Deutsche Börse's gold treasure kept for investors has grown to a record 233 tons.

The demand for the precious metal was recently high, in the first half of the current year 16 tons of gold were added, as the stock exchange announced on Monday in Frankfurt.

For every share in the so-called Xetra Gold bond that investors purchase, Deutsche Börse puts one gram of gold in its vault.

These gold holdings currently have a total value of 11.2 billion euros.

The Stuttgart Stock Exchange also offers a gold-based exchange-traded security ("Euwax Gold").

"We see increased demand from institutional and private investors alike," said Michael König, Managing Director of Deutsche Börse Commodities GmbH, the issuer of Xetra-Gold.

For some time now, investors have been putting more money into gold investments, partly because of concerns about a further rise in inflation.
