In the first half of 2021, around 50,000 migrants have crossed through Panama with the intention of reaching the United States.

Erika Mouynes, Foreign Minister of Panama, says in an interview with CNN that the phenomenon of the migration of Caribbean and African people who use South America as a way of entry to the United States has registered record numbers in recent months.

Mouynes says that despite the efforts to pay attention to their passage through Panama, the collaboration of several countries is needed, since the numbers exceed the capacity to serve them.
