New York-Sana

China's permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, reiterated his country's opposition to unilateral stances on the issue of nuclear non-proliferation and double standards in this field.

"Assisting non-nuclear countries to build nuclear submarines will not only lead to an arms race, but also harm the nuclear non-proliferation regime, security and stability in the region and the world," Zhang said at a UN Security Council session today.

This comes against the backdrop of the United States, Britain and Australia announcing the establishment of a "new security partnership", as Australia plans within the framework of this alliance to build at least 8 nuclear submarines and re-equip its armed forces with American winged missiles.
