11 Picasso from Las Vegas hotels at auction for 110 million dollars

Eleven works by Pablo Picasso that adorned the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, were sold at auction at Sotheby's for a total final price of 110 million dollars, equal to over 94.4 million euros, in the same city as the casinos. (HANDLE)

(ANSA) - ROME, OCTOBER 24 - Eleven works by Pablo Picasso that decorated the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, were sold at the auction at Sotheby's for a total final price of 110 million dollars, equal to over 94.4 million euros, in the same city as casinos.

They are - writes the BBC - nine paintings and two ceramic sculptures, which include fifty years of activity of the great Spanish artist.


    Among the paintings, the famous "Woman with a red-orange cap" of 1938, which portrays the muse and lover of Picasso at the time, Marie-Thérèse Walter, collected the highest price, 40.5 million dollars (34.7 million of Euro).

Another painting, "Man and Child" from 1959, sold for $ 24.4 million.

Among the other masterpieces that adorned the PicassoRestaurant at the Bellagio, now owned by MGM Resorts, there was also "Still life with a basket of fruit and flowers" painted in 1942 in Nazi-occupied Paris, sold for 16.6 million dollars.


    Picasso's collection of works, comprising 20 works in total, was acquired by the former owner of the luxurious hotel-casino, Steve Wynn.
