A five-year-old boy apparently found an old hand grenade from the Second World War in the sand on the premises of a daycare center in Oldenburg and took it home with him.

As the police announced, the boy's father discovered the hand grenade in his child.

He then put it on an empty lot near his home and alerted the police.

Officials checked the suspected grenade and contacted the ordnance disposal service, which is said to have disposed of the find in the meantime.

The city administration immediately commissioned a specialist company with an inspection of the daycare site.
