The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) warns of fraudulent e-mails that are allegedly sent on behalf of the police authority.

The author was wrongly using the abbreviation "Holzer.BKA" as the director of the BKA, said the authority in Wiesbaden.

The recipients of the emails are allegedly accused of having accessed child pornographic material.

"Judicial proceedings" have already been initiated and severe penalties must be expected.

Don't reply, don't open attachment

In order to avoid this allegedly threatened punishment, the persons addressed would be asked to comment via an email address with the ending »@ europamel.net«, it was said.

However, the BKA warns against replying to such emails or opening a PDF document attached, as the document could contain malware.
