In an exclusive interview with "Hong Kong 01", Huang Junlang stated that the outside world accused him of "accompanying the run" as unfair. He also criticized the two opponents by name, saying that they, as establishments, failed to perform their function of monitoring the government well in the past. He even described the DAB as a "responsible bug" and would only follow the government.

Huang Junlang originally planned to elect Kowloon West, but eventually changed to the Northwest New Territories to run for the election.
