Russian President Vladimir Putin described the current situation in the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine as "reminiscent of genocide."

Sputnik news agency quoted Putin as saying today at a meeting with human rights activists: "I must say that" Russophobia " is a first step towards genocide, and what is happening now in Donbass we see well and reminds us of the genocide."

It is noteworthy that Moscow has repeatedly warned against “Rossophobia” or the policy of intimidation against Russia, indicating that the West used it in the past and is still using it in the present.

The Russian-Ukrainian relations have been highly tense since the coup carried out by pro-Western extremists in 2014, which resulted in changing the legitimate elected authority in Ukraine. Which provided for a cease-fire, a guarantee of a political solution and the preparation of a new constitution.
