After two warm visits to Paris and Brussels, it was almost on hostile ground that Olaf Scholz made, on Sunday evening, in Poland, his third visit abroad.
Confronted on his arrival in Warsaw with a Germanophobic rhetoric orchestrated by the conservative national government of the PiS, the new German chancellor, looking tense, tried to defend the bonds of
“friendship”
supposed to unite the two neighbors.
In recent weeks, the Polish capital has seen posters blooming summarizing the state of bilateral relations.
Accused of ignoring Warsaw's old demand for war reparations, the German ambassador is publicly questioned there.
"Mr Freytag, could the German authorities, who are so interested in the question of the rule of law in other countries, finally put an end to this scandalous non-respect of the law and pay Poland the reparations? and damages for the German crimes of WWII? ”…
