Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stressed that the activities of the United States and NATO near the Russian borders may exacerbate the situation and reach the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, noting that such an escalation will have unpredictable consequences.

In a statement today to Sputnik Agency, Ryabkov said, "NATO's plans to constantly approach our borders with its military infrastructure with its various types of modern, high-precision and long-range weapons is an alarming act."

Ryabkov pointed out that the closer NATO to the Russian borders, the greater the risk of destabilization and the emergence of a new crisis that can be compared to the Cuban missile crisis.

Relations between Russia and NATO have recently been tense due to the increasing presence of the military alliance near the Russian borders, which Moscow considers a violation of the basic document of relations with the alliance.
