The leaders of France, Germany and Ukraine announced today their quest to revive talks with Russia in the Normandy format in order to find a lasting solution to the dispute between Russia and Ukraine.

Reuters quoted the office of French President Emmanuel Macron as saying that he met German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of a European Union summit in Brussels to discuss ways to resume negotiations within the framework of the so-called "Normandy format" that also includes Russia.

The office added that the three leaders reaffirmed their commitment to this format of negotiations in order to find a lasting solution to the dispute between Russia and Ukraine.

The Russian Federation deplored the silence of the two sides of the Normandy Quartet, Germany and France, on the public threats launched by the Ukrainian authorities against Moscow, warning of the impact of these threats on the negotiation process on the Ukraine crisis within the framework of the Minsk Agreement.

The Donbass region in eastern Ukraine has been witnessing a military-political crisis since 2014, following the change of authority in the capital, Kiev, as a result of widespread protests in which Western-backed forces actively participated.
