The United States is present in Beijing with the largest number of athletes, 224 in total, just ahead of Canada, with 217 athletes and the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) - Russia having been excluded from international sports competitions until the end of 2022, by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on the grounds of organized doping -, with 215 athletes.

The organizing country, China, which does not have a great culture of the Winter Games, will count on 174 athletes to win medals.

For its part, France flew to Beijing with 86 athletes for these Games.

A diplomatic boycott at the heart of the Olympics

Several countries have chosen a diplomatic boycott because of the “ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang”, including the United States, which was the first to take this decision.

The United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Lithuania, as well as Denmark and the Netherlands, are not sending any members of their government to Beijing.

China always strongly condemns these boycotts decided by these nations, of which France is not a member.

Four years ago, in Pyeongchang, Norway finished top of the medal standings, with 39 charms including 14 Olympic titles.

Close behind were Germany (31 medals, 14 gold), Canada (29 medals, 11 gold) and the United States (23 medals, 9 gold).

The tricolor delegation had settled in the top 10, with a 9th place, obtained thanks to 15 medals.

Note that the country that wins the most gold medals is given a higher place in the ranking.

It is the silver and bronze medals that decide in the event of a tie between two nations.
