(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, FEBRUARY 07 - "Over the last twenty years the ECB has ensured price stability, with an average inflation rate of 1.7 percent since the beginning of 1999. We are determined to continue doing so".

This was stated by the president of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, during a hearing in the Economic Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.

"Compared to our expectations, the risks on the inflation outlook increase in December".

According to long-term indicators, "inflation will return to 2% by 2023 and should remain around this level thereafter," says Lagarde.
