Werder Bremen has extended the contract with sporting director Frank Baumann, which is due to expire in the summer, until June 30, 2024.
This was announced by the second division soccer team.
Bremen – Baumann (46) was heavily criticized after relegation from the Bundesliga.
In the summer, however, the ex-professional initially managed to ensure the club's financial survival by selling players.
He then showed a good hand in the choice of coach Ole Werner as the successor to Markus Beginning, who resigned because of the vaccination card affair.
Werder have won all seven games under Werner so far and have good chances of promotion again.
"It's still not an easy time for the club.
That's why I appreciate the trust placed in me all the more and look forward to continued constructive and critical support from the Supervisory Board," said Baumann, who succeeded Thomas Eichin in 2016.
"Frank's actions are characterized not only by a high degree of reflection and the pursuit of continuous development, but also by the fact that he always puts the well-being of Werder above his own interests and sensitivities," said Bremen's supervisory board boss Marco Fuchs.
