“Fresh” on Disney+: a thriller that will whet your appetite

Disney+ is once again offering a film far removed from its traditional brand image, with this work which, starting as a comedy

Noa, a modern young woman struggling to find a soul mate through dating apps, crosses paths with handsome Steve in his convenience store.

It's love at first sight, and the young man soon invites his sweetheart to a surprise getaway.

But there, Steve suddenly reveals a completely different face...

“Fresh”, available on the Disney + platform and which arrives preceded by a flattering reputation since its passage at the highly rated Sundance festival, presents itself as a pretty romantic comedy… for half an hour.

Noa's misfortunes with her suitors culminate in a disastrous dinner where she finds herself the target of the most filthy misogyny.

The film then switches in the blink of an eye into the horror thriller, displaying growing violence over the course of its history.

Without revealing too much of its content, and since its American poster reveals the pot of roses, we can emphasize that the work addresses the risky and taboo theme of cannibalism.

This without pouring into the big gore that stains, and even in a rather stylized way, as the excellent series "Hannibal" knew so well.

Daisy Edgar-Jones, already seen in the “Normal People” or “War of the Worlds” series, passes here without transition from sweet young woman to champion of survival.

As for Sebastian Stan, discovered as the Winter Soldier in the “Captain America” films, he finds, after the “Pam & Tommy” mini-series, a once again very crazy role.

EDITOR'S RATING: 3.5/5
