In Chisinau, the Sports Hall welcomes hundreds of refugees including women, the elderly and children

A river of women, the elderly and children crosses the border with Moldova, to escape from Ukraine in war.

And the sports hall of the capital Chisinau has been transformed into a huge bedroom for hundreds of displaced people.

Civilians try as best they can to leave southern Ukraine, the hottest front of the fighting.

And neighboring Moldova is one of the main landings, along with Poland.

A human chain has crossed the border near the village of Palanca for days.

Few men, especially women, the elderly and many children, afraid.

To make escape less traumatic, many of whom are allowed to travel by scooter, bringing toys and animals with them.

In the river of displaced people there is also a crew of Filipinos, who abandoned their ship in the Ukrainian port of Nikolaev, to take refuge in Moldova.

For some of the displaced, it took five days to reach the border and cross it.

A forced choice, after their homes were bombed.

On this side of the border, the authorities are trying to facilitate the refugees as much as possible, and with the passing of the days the organization has also improved.

School buses, also offered by neighboring Romania, shuttle between the border point denied to private cars and two camps set up downstream, one for tents and the other for first aid.

Because injuries are also arriving from Ukraine.

Their relatives are waiting for them.

A Moldovan carabiniere explains that the crossing is interrupted only at night, because on the Ukrainian side the border is closed for security reasons.

In the capital Chisinau, hospitality is even more structured.

In the sports hall, more than 500 Roma people, almost all children, with a small representation of Azerbaijan from Ukraine, are hosted and cared for by Moldovans.

The parquet of the large facility is covered with hundreds of mattresses.

The little ones run on the athletics track, which is also used for the walk of pet dogs.

The girls play with dolls on the cots.

The small former Soviet republic is an example of welcome in these dark days.

Over 200,000 people have entered since the start of the conflict.

By far the highest percentage of Ukrainian refugees per capita: nearly 4,000 per 100,000 residents, compared to 1,700 in Poland.
