The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that its forces are monitoring the movements of two American destroyers equipped with guided missiles that entered the waters of the Baltic Sea.
“The forces and means of the Baltic Fleet began monitoring the movements of the guided-missile destroyers Donald Cook and Forest Sherman of the US Armed Forces, which are equipped with guided missiles, after they entered the waters of the Baltic Sea,” Russia Today quoted the National Center for Defense Management of the Russian Federation as saying in a statement.
The entry of the two US destroyers into the Baltic Sea comes in light of severe tension between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) on the one hand and Russia on the other hand, against the backdrop of its special military operations in Ukraine to protect civilians in Donbass.
