(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, APRIL 03 - Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is about to announce his resignation: the Daily Mirror reports.

The premier met with President Gotabatya and both agreed on the formation of a new interim government with all 11 parties in the country and a new head of government.

Sources cited by the newspaper indicate as probable successor of Rajapaksa Disnesh Gunwawardena, while Harsha DeSilva, of the opposition party SJB, (Samagi Jana Balawegaya) could take over the finance ministry.

Today many demonstrators challenged the army, taking to the streets in spite of the state of emergency and the curfew in force in the country since Friday.

Social media, suspended last night like all Internet services, were reactivated after the Colombo Human Rights Commission found that the Ministry of Defense does not have the power to impose such a block.
