Precisely on Passover: Expect congestion in Sinai Israel today

4/6/2022, 8:44:35 PM

Closing of the Taba crossing at 20:00 is outrageous to many • Airports Authority: "Severe manpower shortage"

The flights to Sharm have not yet been officially approved, and even then they will probably be in low numbers and at not low prices - leaving the Taba border as the only crossing to Sinai, and accordingly the holiday rush will be exceptional.

Since the crossing is only open until eight in the evening, even now - even before the hustle and bustle of Passover - the loads are heavy and the queues are long.

If there is no significant change in the coming week, they will even be exceptional so tourists in transit may wait long hours in the heat of Eilat and Sinai.

The difficult sights, of the tens of thousands of Israelis who are expected to get stuck at the border crossing, can be prevented in advance with the reinforcement of the workers at the border and its opening around the clock.

Advocate Rafael Fridge, from the "Chinese Lovers" community, warned Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked that he intends to appeal to the High Court to open the crossing around the clock.

Guy Shilo, director of the community: "The Taba crossing has been open for a whole year under restrictions that never existed. It is not possible for such an active border crossing to be neglected in this way."

Airports Authority response: "We are suffering from a severe manpower shortage, and at the moment it is not possible to open beyond the current hours. We are doing everything we can to resolve the issue as soon as possible."
