The head of the Green Group in the Austrian Parliament, Sigrid Maurer, is said to have been attacked by a suspected opponent of the Corona measures.

The police reported that there was a discussion between the man and the MP in a restaurant in Vienna on Thursday evening about corona policy.

The 26-year-old threw a drinking glass in the face of the 37-year-old politician.

Maurer was unharmed.

The attacker was arrested.

Nehammer: »Violence must never be used as a means of political debate«

The Greens govern together with the conservative ÖVP and have been the health minister since the beginning of the pandemic.

Many corona restrictions have already been lifted and compulsory vaccination has been suspended.

Indoors, however, masks have recently been compulsory again.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) condemned the attack.

He wrote on Twitter: "Violence must never be used as a means of political debate."
