Didier Retière, former National Technical Director: “We found a culture of French rugby”

INTERVIEW – After spending eight years at the DTN, Didier Retière joined Clermont as sports director. For Le Figaro, he takes stock of his years at the FFR and projects himself on his future at ASM.

What is your assessment of your term at the DTN, which began in 2014?


Didier Retiere:

It's a job that has been quite broad, from high level to young people and development, including amateur rugby.

It is my satisfaction to have been able to lead my action on the whole of French rugby.

There was a form of consistency.

Concerning the high level, we were able to increase the working time, the individual requirement.

The player was at the center of the device.

We had players who had potential, but they have improved a lot during all these years.

The project was shared by all the staff.

When I started each team had a personal project, we managed to change that and have a real collective project in which everyone found their place.

It is a real satisfaction.

We have raised people's skills and even if we have lost coaches,

the standard has been maintained.
