A young hiker died in an accident in Krün, Upper Bavaria, in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The 25-year-old woman from Cologne fell around 100 meters on Friday afternoon, the Mittenwald police said.

Her companion, who was also 25, informed the mountain rescue service.

However, the rescue helicopter's emergency doctor could only determine the woman's death on site.

The two women were therefore on the Lakaiensteig from the Fischbachalm in the direction of the Oberes Soiernhaus, but got lost on the ascent.

"In the impassable, steep, rocky terrain," according to the investigators' initial findings, the casualty slipped on the damp grass and fell before the eyes of her companion.

The dead had been recovered by helicopter.

"The companion was flown into the valley by emergency services using a rescue helicopter and was cared for there by the mountain rescue service's crisis intervention team," according to the police.
