American giants take control of submarine cables and satellites

In ten years, Google, Meta, SpaceX have got their hands on this vital infrastructure for telecommunications.

A decade will have sufficed to upset the global hierarchy in international telecom infrastructures.

These connections, oh so crucial, ensure communications between Europe, the Americas, Asia... They are what allow, for example, a French user to validate his password to connect to a social network whose servers are in the United States, to watch a streaming series or listen to music.

Historically owned by telecom operators, these infrastructures are now in the hands of American groups, mainly Google, Meta (Facebook) and, to a lesser extent, Microsoft.

These connections represent approximately 95% of international Internet traffic, the balance being provided by satellite links.
