Emmanuel Macron, freshly re-elected president last Sunday, was targeted on Tuesday by a jet of cherry tomatoes during a trip to a market in Cergy-Pontoise (Val-d'Oise).

Emmanuel Macron had chosen this market in the Paris suburbs, as the first step in the legislative campaign, just after his re-election on Sunday evening.

While the president was chatting with onlookers in the middle of the stalls, several bags containing cherry tomatoes were thrown in his direction, without reaching him.

The head of state's security service then briefly deployed an umbrella to protect him before the president went to the covered market.

The Head of State also struggled to make his way, blocked by some crowd movements.

This trip is his first public appearance since the celebration at the Champ de Mars, of his victory with 58.5% of the vote against the candidate of the National Rally Marine Le Pen.

He went to thank his teams at his Parisian campaign headquarters at the end of the day on Tuesday.

This Wednesday at 4 p.m., he will preside over a tribute ceremony to Michel Bouquet, who died on April 13 at the age of 96, at the Invalides.
