Over 3 thousand migrants died last year at sea while trying to reach Europe, or double the toll recorded in 2020, the UN has indicated.
"Out of this total, 1,924 people were declared dead or disappeared in the central and western Mediterranean routes, while another 1,153 died or believed missing on the North West African sea route to the Canary Islands," explained a spokesman for the 'UN Refugee Agency in Geneva, Shabia Mantoo.
