At the Louvre-Lens, another look at Rome

On the occasion of their temporary closure at the Louvre, the Roman rooms are installed in the Hauts-de-France museum. Nearly 300 ancient masterpieces are exhibited in a redesigned, more monumental and educational scenography.

Busts of emperors in series, sculptures of gods and goddesses, incredibly ornate reliefs of rich sarcophagi, marble stelae or bronze tables, frescoes from Pompeii and mosaics from Antioch, arms and armor of gladiators, packs of legionnaires, tableware collected to the treasure of Boscoreale… Visitors widen their eyes, who do not know that at the Louvre the apartments of Anne of Austria, under construction, will not reopen until 2023 and discover in Lens a unique collection in the world, Italy except.

It is that of the Roman masterpieces of the Louvre, which usually occupy these spaces.

They have temporarily found a comfortable asylum in this regional branch of the museum.
