A nine-year-old child was hit by a car in Troisdorf (Rhein-Sieg district) on Saturday morning and died a little later in the hospital.
The 79-year-old driver first drove his car into a wall for reasons that have not yet been clarified and bounced off there, the police said.
The car then hit the girl, then hit a parked vehicle and came to a stop.
Rescue workers freed the man from his car and handed him over to the ambulance service, who took him to a hospital for observation.
The injured girl was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter and died shortly thereafter.
An emergency chaplain looked after the parents and witnesses to the accident.
The car was secured.
