One looks to the future and peace, the other to the past and war.

More than a contrast, it is a confrontation: Ukrainians fight because they yearn for the first and reject the second.

For Putin, the threat comes from the unity of Europe and its democratic contagion.

Ukraine is the current battlefield of its historical confrontation with the Western model.

Europe must respond to this with greater unity and democracy.

However, the Russian war undermined the cohesion of the Twenty-Seven, the disapproval displayed at the beginning of the invasion tending to crumble with the risks it entails and the sacrifices it implies.

As for bringing the EU closer to the peoples who form it, we will have to see what remains of the three hundred measures recommended by the Conference on the Future of Europe once digested by the Brussels Eurocracy.

In view of these challenges, we will not complain that Emmanuel Macron
