How to choose the right bodyboard?
Whether you are a regular or a beginner, the first thing to do is to choose the right bodyboard board.
To do this, you will have to take an interest in several characteristics of this more complex board than it seems at first glance.
Among the main criteria, there is your size, we do not choose the same bodyboard board for an adult or a child, but also your level, the water temperature, and the shape of the board.
Let's start with the size of your bodyboard.
The top of the board must reach the level of your navel more or less 2.5 centimeters.
Note that the higher the bodyboard, the more buoyancy it offers, but the less maneuverability, it's up to you depending on your practice and your level.
Now on to the material of your board.
In effect,
the type of foam used will have an impact on the behavior of the bodyboard.
A polyethylene (PE) model will be more flexible and heavier, while a polypropylene (PP) model will be stiffer and lighter.
Generally, beginners turn to PE, and confirmed ones to PP.
The temperature of the water will also have an impact, cold waters make the boards more rigid, and vice versa.
Another element, the stringer.
This is the fiberglass or carbon fiber rod placed inside the bodyboard deck.
The stringer serves to increase the stiffness of the board and extend its life.
The stringer can be simple, double, or triple, we then speak of a trident.
While all bodyboards look very similar, their shape varies.
The nose for example (the front part) will be more or less wide depending on the level.
The wide, the widest part of the board, influences the practice (lying down, on one knee, etc.).
The tail, the lower part of the board, is also to be chosen carefully depending on whether you ride lying down or on one knee.
Finally, the price will be important, and there are plenty of inexpensive bodyboard boards, especially on the sites of online merchants.
How to put a leash on your board?
Very useful, the leash is an accessory that allows you to stay attached to your board in the event of a fall.
This avoids losing her or letting her go too far.
If your board does not have one, rest assured it is very easy to install.
Two cases generally arise:
Presence of a leash plug:
this is a plastic part allowing the leash to be passed through and attached by sliding the clip into the buckle and tightening;
Absence of a leash plug:
it can be purchased separately, all you have to do is place it on the board and attach the leash as explained above.
