Sheikh Muhammad Selma, a senior member of the Islamic Movement of Ra'am, was forcibly removed from the Temple Mount last night (Sunday) by police in the Old City of Jerusalem.

"This is a cowardly attack on the sheikh and his family," MK Walid Taha

wrote in an Arabic Arabic post.

He further claimed that the reason for Selma's detention and his family members was Selma's remark to the police, whom he asked not to smoke on the spot.

Following the incident, the police said that "during the activity of the border police in the Old City of Jerusalem, the suspect and his family members began to disturb the order at the place, to get angry and shout at the police.

The policemen tried to prevent the riot and calm the spirits, but the family members attacked the policemen and even tore the uniform of one of their uniforms.

"As a result of their misconduct, they were arrested and later released by a decision of the officer in charge."
