(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 07 - The Russian parliament has voted in favor of Moscow's exit from the European Court of Human Rights after more than 20 years as a member of the Council of Europe.

   The Guardian reports it.

The Duma has approved two drafts, two texts, with one Russia withdrawing from the jurisdiction of the court and with the second marking March 16 as a time limit, or beyond that no decision taken by the court against Russia will be implemented.

After the vote, the speaker of the Russian lower house, Vyacheslav Volodin, underlined how in his opinion the European Court of Human Rights has become "an instrument of political struggle against our country in the hands of Western politicians".
