From Duran Duran to the Bangles, from Madonna to Devo - in "Stranger Things" songs from the 80s were repeatedly integrated into the plot.

Thanks to a prominent placement in the plot, Kate Bush's »Running Up That Hill« even made it to number one in the British charts 37 years after it was first published.

The heavy metal hit »Master of Puppets«, which the band Metallica first released in 1986 on the album of the same name, also had a major appearance in the Netflix series.

The song is considered one of the milestones of so-called thrash metal, a particularly fast-paced variant of the genre.

In one scene, the series character Eddie confronts the dark forces with "Master of Puppets" and officially bangs his head.

Metal as a weapon, metal as a protective shield - the creators of »Master of Puppets« also like this idea very much.

Metallica have now released a video on TikTok as a thank you, in which they pay tribute to the metalhead in the series: "Eddie, this is for you!" It says at the beginning of the little film, then you see James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett shaking their manes and shaking their heads playing their old, new hit.

Interesting clash of generations: Metal oldies copy a teenager who copies metal oldies.

This could be the Netflix production's recipe for success: It's a series for teenagers in which adults rediscover the hits of their youth.

The streaming platform announced in June that the fourth season of "Stranger Things" is the most successful English-language Netflix series of all time.
