According to the German Weather Service (DWD), Germany is facing a hot and dry weekend - and this is just the beginning.

"At the start of the new week, a new heat wave is rolling in from the southwest," said a DWD meteorologist with a view to this region.

"And the drought continues." Germany must therefore be prepared for a lot of sun, hardly any rain and high summer temperatures.

In many places, 30 to 35 degrees could be reached next Tuesday and Wednesday - "38 degrees at the top," said the DWD meteorologist.

However, it is not yet possible to estimate where it will be hottest.

The highest temperatures would probably be reached first on the Upper Rhine, in the Rhine-Main area, in the Ruhr area and in the Palatinate.

The maximum values then go up in the rest of the country.

Only on the coasts it stays a little cooler.

According to the DWD, until the new heat wave comes, the north-east will be a little cooler and the south-west more summery.

24 to 29 degrees are expected south of the Main on Friday.

The sun is shining brightly.

A few clouds may form on the Alps.

In the middle and north of Germany, on the other hand, a maximum of 18 to 25 degrees is predicted.

It's supposed to be mostly cloudy there.

There will only be showers on the coasts.

Then on Saturday a similar picture: 18 to 23 degrees and showers in the north, 24 to 29 degrees and sun in the south.

On Sunday, temperatures in the north-east half are expected to rise to 20 to 25 degrees, in the south-west half afternoon temperatures of 25 to 30 degrees will probably be reached with lots of sun.
