Animal carcasses found in Wan Chai.

At about 1 am, when a motorist was passing Stubbs Road downhill towards Shiu Fai Terrace, they found a "civet" lying on the road, motionless.

When police arrived, they found it dead, with bruises and bloodstains on its body, and it was suspected that it had been hit by a car and died of serious injuries.

The police then called relevant departments to the scene and took away the animal remains.

It is understood that the animal is not believed to be a civet, but a civet cat with a body and tail about 3 feet long.

Civet (English name: Civet) is also known as the little civet. According to the information of Kadoorie Farm, the little civet is a native species of Hong Kong and is protected by the Wildlife Protection Ordinance. It is widely distributed in Lantau Island and the suburbs of Hong Kong outside the outlying islands. It is a nocturnal animal. Reclusive by nature, very alert, and generally difficult to encounter in the wild.

The black and brown ring pattern on the tail of the little civet is also known as the "seven raccoon".

Because of their strong odor of glandular secretions, they leave fragrance everywhere to attract the opposite sex and mark their territory. They are also used for the production of perfumes and traditional medicine, so they also have the alias of "civet/civet".

As for the civet cat, it is quite similar to the civet, and both belong to the "civet family", except that the tail has no rings and there are no zebra markings on the back.

And there are obvious black and white on the body and face.

The civet is a protected animal in Hong Kong. It is illegal for anyone to hunt, deliberately harass, possess, sell or export the civet. The maximum penalty is 100,000 yuan and one year in prison.
