The British professional cyclist Adam Yates won the king's stage of the Deutschland Tour and took over the red jersey of the overall leader.

The 30-year-old professional from the Ineos-Grenadiers team was able to assert himself as a soloist on Saturday on the third stage after 148.9 kilometers from Freiburg to the 1207-meter-high mountain finish on the Schauinsland.

Schauinsland - He replaced the Italian Alberto Bettiol as the overall leader.

Second on the day, 19 seconds behind Yates, was Spain's Pello Bilbao, followed by Belgian Mauri Vansevenant.

The best German was Augsburg's Georg Zimmermann in fifth, 29 seconds behind.

Emanuel Buchmann had to drop eight kilometers from the finish on the final climb and crossed the finish line more than two minutes behind.

The final stage on Sunday covers 186.6 kilometers from Schiltach to Stuttgart.

In total, the professional cyclists have covered 710.7 kilometers since the prologue on Wednesday in Weimar.

Last year, Buchmann's Bora-hansgrohe teammate Nils Politt won the race.
