Australian Kaden Groves sprinted the eleventh stage of the Vuelta between Alhama de Murcia and Cabo de Gata in Andalusia, while Julian Alaphilippe retired after a crash.

The BikeExchange rider won his first stage of a great lap by beating Danny Van Poppel (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Tim Merlier (Alpecin) at the finish.

Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step) remains the leader of the race with 2 minutes and 41 seconds ahead of three-time defending champion Primoz Roglic (Jumbo) and three minutes and three seconds of Spaniard Enric Mas (Movistar).

The stage was marked by the abandonment of Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step) after a crash in a curve 64 kilometers from the finish.

The Frenchman suffered a collarbone injury and was taken on a stretcher to the nearest hospital.

Today, in the meantime, five new riders tested positive at Covid: the winner of the 2018 edition and so far fifth overall Simon Yates (BikeExchange), the French Pavel Sivakov (Ineos) and the three members of the Ken Pharma team Roger Adria, Hector Carretero and Pau Miquel.
